“ON YOUR KNEES, DOGS!”

Posted in Writing News with tags , , , , on October 4, 2009 by matthewfryer

I’m happy to say that my story “The Brahmapur Buccaneer” will be be appearing in Skulls and Crossbones, an anthology of female pirate stories edited by Andi Marquette and R.J. Emanuelle.

Set on the east coast of India, it follows a woman attempting to flee her abusive husband on a shrimp trawler, only to meet a fellow stowaway with a very different agenda. It’s a break from genre for me, but writing the tale was certainly an enjoyable adventure.

The book is due for release in January next year from Bedazzled Ink at Mindancer Press.

MORE STORY NEWS

A busy home, work and play schedule over the last few weeks has meant very little productivity on the writing and submitting front. It was therefore with a smile that I read an email acceptance from Necrotic Tissue for ”The Bunker”, a macabre descent of a tale scheduled for publication in issue #10 next year.

My last sales have been humour and SF pieces, but it’s nice to be back in the pages of a good old horror magazine.

UPCOMING STORY

I’ve had word that the crew of Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine plan to publish my new story “The Moonshine Flame Grill” in issue 44 next year.

It’s an addictively fun magazine that I’ve really enjoyed in the past, so it’s great to be a part of it.

BACK ON TOP OF SUBMISSIONS

I’ve not had much writing news to report recently, but I’ve finally managed to polish a couple of new stories and get them submitted along with a few other older ones that had been sitting forlorn and previously rejected in my stash.

Also, a 15,000 word novella I recently completed titled “Iron Maiden” (after the best metal band in the world) is currently being read for an interesting project. More news on that when I have it.

Fingers crossed and on with a new story.

I’m very happy to discover that my story “The Plague of Gentlemen” will feature in the Dark Jesters anthology coming from Novello publishers next year.

Edited by Nick Cato and L.L. Soares, it also features tales by William A. Veselik, David T. Wilbanks, Laura Cooney, Jerrod Balzer, Sam Battrick, Robert Guffey, James Roy Daley, Rob Brooks and Mark Justice.

Looks good and it’s also nice to share a TOC with me old mate Dave Wilbanks.

February 27th 2009 sees the release of “Terrible Beauty, Fearful Symmetry”, an anthology from DarkHart Press that includes my story Reverend Cheshire and the Brimstone Package.

Beauty that causes people to do unspeakable things, beauty that masks something else…

Edited by Lisa Mannetti, it also features stories by Tracy Carbone, Weston Ochse, Angeline Hawkes, Matthew Warner, Edward Lee, Sephera Giron, Gord Rollo, Marcy Italiano, Elizabeth Blue and many more.

It’s great to be in such good company.
